Matija Filo creates works that communicate with space – exploring the connections between the same sculpture and the surrounding environment. He thinks the material itself determines the form of the sculpture, and each new idea and sketch becomes a path that defines the course of the next sculpture. He studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, participated in numerous workshops, residencies and exhibited at exhibitions throughout Croatia.
As an Erasmus student, he studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Riga, Latvia. He worked as an intern at Atelier Van Lieshout in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He primarily creates in wood and metal, his sculpture is part of a permanent public exhibition in Bjelovar and the Čakovec castle.
