Dijana
Čović

Dijana Čović (1971) is a contemporary expressionistic oil painter who lives and works in Zagreb. She graduated from high school for art and design and graduated from FPZ in Zagreb. After completing several private art schools, 6 years ago she completely dedicated herself to fine art. Genes and talent for creativity and imagination, she says, she inherited from her grandmother Maria. Although she lived in poverty, she shaped wooden dishes with her own hands and sold them at the market, thus feeding her eight children as a single mother. Dijana’s art is expressionistic, very emotional, but also socially engaged. She paints mostly in oil and acrylic, in the manner of abstract realism, she contrast two seemingly incompatible concepts, abstract and realistic art. Realism in layers of color evokes real objects and subjects from life: portraits, figures, landscapes, floral motifs. With abstract lines, slightly embossed, in a 3D manner, she evokes the world of shapes, colors, textures and patterns, creating movement, giving rhythm and conveying expression. The brushes and spatulas movements are rhythmic and powerful like a dance, with thick gestural layers of colors, very colorful, under the influence of fauvism, strongly influenced by the old masters. Sometimes she is focused on design elements and principles to visually express feelings, thoughts and her own experiences. As she says, painting is her fuel, passion, sometimes like an addiction…

Dijana Čović, this is her second appearance at Art Zagreb, has several notable solo exhibitions, the last one at the Vladimir Buzančić Gallery in March “Didi – the world of women ”, as well as several group exhibitions  in front of the Culture Center “StartART”, where she works as the vice president. Her works have been published in the collections of the Paris Singulart, american Saatchiart gallery, the Belgrade magazine “Pravo u metu”. Her artworks hang in the private residences of collectors and art lovers all over the world.
