Jelena Sokić (Split) began to actively draw and paint in 2000 she, realizing that this would become her profession. She enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana in 2005. All the time during her studies, and especially after graduation, she actively participated in various art events, and collective exhibitions and organized solo exhibitions. As a medium of expression, she uses painting, drawing, video, and graphics, but often a combination of all techniques. She currently lives and works in Zagreb.

“I understand painting as a process. It is a way of communicating my vision of the world as intensely as possible. For me, it is something permanent, commitment and experience. Painting does not serve to cause scandal or satisfy curiosity. Above all, painting is an evocation of the mystical that could not be expressed in any other way. In my work, I use everyday motifs and translate them into art themes with all their stormy emotional characteristics.”
