The Croatian Association of Fine Artists and Art Critics — HULULK, (2014) has based its activities since its inception on the presentation and implementation of cultural—artistic programs and accompanying educational—therapeutic art workshops. HULULK’s projects grow out of the aspiration to create new cultural centers by moving events from the “center” to the marginal areas of the city and the intention of a different, more innovative presentation of recent fine art. Based on the rich cultural heritage of the Zagreb region, we create projects that enrich the city of Zagreb and the whole of Croatia with interesting cultural events that are not only exhibition presentations, but also international manifestations and useful educational—therapeutic programs. The presentation at this year’s Art Zagreb is a kind of cross—section of our exhibition activity,

united in the theme — Phoenix/Rebirth, with which we positioned fine art last year, in 2021, pointing to its important role in the current social moment when, isolated in its workspaces/studios, remained very much alive, because it was born and lived in the artwork of its authors. She was born, like a phoenix, from the fragments and cracks of a wounded heritage, regenerating both spirit and body despite the deadly virus. Because a gift refined and elevated by the spirit, and true art that is, rises above circumstances, above apathy, ruins and disease, testifying that spiritually active we can rise from our own ashes, able to look “into the distance”.
